How to Choose an IPTV Provider

Provider comparisons are usually written as thirty-item checklists, which is the same as having no checklist at all. Most of those items either cannot be verified or do not change the outcome.

These five do change it. They are ordered by how much money each one moves, largest first, so if you stop after two you will still have made the decisions that matter.

The steps

   Count the screens that play at once

   Not televisions owned — screens playing simultaneously on a busy evening. Two people watching at different times need one connection; two watching at the same time need two. This answer alone moves your annual bill by up to $240, because the market splits between providers charging $5 per extra stream and providers charging about $10.

   Choose the term you will commit to

   Monthly is $15 at every provider here. Twelve months is $100 to $120, a saving of a third to 44%. It is the largest discount in this market and the only decision carrying real risk, so buy it second rather than first: trial, one paid month, then the term.

   Ask what happens if it stops working

   Before paying, not after. One provider in this directory publishes a refund window — BexyTV, 30 days. Everyone else publishes nothing, which leaves your card issuer's dispute process as the only route, and that clock starts at the transaction rather than at the failure.

   Check how long the operator has traded

   On a twelve-month prepayment this decides whether the purchase was good. FreeGoTV publishes 2013; no other provider here publishes a founding date. Absence is not proof of a short history, but a verifiable record beats an unverifiable one when money goes out a year ahead.

   Match it to what you will install it on

What not to choose on

Channel counts. Unverifiable, inflated as a matter of routine, and useless as a comparison. Two providers publishing 50,000 may carry entirely different things.

Uptime percentages. A provider's own uptime figure has no audit behind it.

Review star ratings on the provider's own site. Check the dates before the stars — a batch that all appeared in one fortnight tells you how they were collected.

The monthly price. It is $15 at every provider in this directory. Choosing on it is choosing at random.

The order matters more than the answers

Most people run these in reverse: they pick a provider, then buy the year, then discover the connection limit, then find out there is no refund policy.

Run them forwards and the worst case is $15 — a single month on a provider that turned out not to suit you. That is the entire value of the sequence.
